AliExpress allows M-Pesa payments by Kenyans

China’s e-commerce giant AliExpress has integrated Kenya’s successful M-Pesa mobile payments in its store. This allows Kenyans that do not have a credit card to pay for goods on the site by M-Pesa mobile payment.

Kenya’s mobile operating firm Safaricom has secured the deals for this type of payment with China’s e-commerce company. In Kenya, online shopping on the Chinese site that is run by Alibaba, will become much easier. Also, customers can now pay for their purchase in Kenya shillings currency

According to a report on AfricaNews, M-Pesa was launched in 2007 to offer Kenyans without bank accounts a network to transfer cash via mobile phones. “It now offers a range of payment services, loans and savings to more than 21 million people in the country.”
