Nigeria’s new €15bn refinery will create 300,000 jobs

The new €15 billion refinery project in Nigeria, to be built by Dangote Industries Limited, is expected to create over 300,000 direct and indirect jobs by the first quarter of 2019.

Vanguard Nigeria reports that the CEO of the project, Mr Olakunle Alake, has said that the refinery and the petrochemicals and fertiliser plants in the project are to be built in one location. The refinery will have a refining capacity of about 650,000 barrels of crude a day.

Alake is optimistic about the project and its effects on employment. Alake expects the project force down the price of petrol in Nigeria. According to Alake, the project will have the capacity to store four billion litres of products and load 2,680 trucks per day. “By the time we finish our gas pipeline it will be able to generate about 12,000mw which can be exported to other African countries.”
