Snapchat touches down in Africa

Snapchat is now also operational in Africa. Snapchat’s parent company Snap announced a new partnership to officially sell advertising through Ad Dynamo in South Africa. Ad is now Snap’s authorized sales representative on the continent.

It is no surprise that Snapchat is launching in Africa. Social media on the continent are growing at a double-digit rate every year. Growth is supported by the advent of $50 smartphones.

Snapchat has 187-million users daily active users. Forbes reports that its revenues were $286 million in the fourth quarter of 2017, a 72% increase over the previous year. Social media have stated that they regard Africa as a major growth area. Facebook last year said it has 170-million users in Africa, mostly on mobile. Google was the first major online firm open offices on the continent, in Johannesburg.
