China’s ARJ-21 jet: 308 sold

China’s home-made passenger jet – the ARJ21 – is finally taking off. The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) sold 30 of the nation's first domestically produced regional jets to ICBC Leasing.

ICBC Leasing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, is the largest aircraft leasing company in the country, China Economic Net reports. The ARJ21, short for Advanced Regional Jet for the 21st Century, is a type of regional airliner designed and manufactured by COMAC. The ARJ21-700 was officially certified by the Civil Aviation Administration of China at the end of last year. The ARJ21-700 plane, with 90 seats in a full economy class configuration, now has a total ‘order book’ of 308 sold.

End 2014, Zhou Laizhen, deputy director of Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), encouraged China's airlines to use Chinese aircraft, including the regional jet model ARJ-21. The CAAC will also seek to export aircraft and strive to ensure their safe operation, Zhou said.
