China's new energy vehicle sales soar
Chinese consumers are eager to adopt new energy vehicles. Sales of new energy cars jumped 138% in the first months of 2019.
In total, 96,000 new energy cars were sold in January. This number makes the EV-sector the best-performing one in China’s automotive industry. The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers published sales stats that show that sales of pure electric vehicles increased 179.7 percent to 75,000 units.
Sales of pure electric vehicles increased 179.7 percent to 75,000 units during the period, and those of plug-in hybrids grew 54.6 percent to 21,000 units, CAAM said. The total sales of cars in China in January (2.37 million units) went down 15.8 percent compared with the same period last year.
China Daily reports that the National Development and Reform Commission, together with nine other departments, released a program by the end of January to promote consumption nationwide, emphasizing the promotion of automobile consumption by optimizing new energy vehicle subsidies.
