Enjoy your PED on flights from Air France and KLM – in ‘airplane mode’

On long-haul flights, having a tablet, e-reader or smartphone at your disposal makes time fly. And if you travel for business, it is nice to get some work done. Due to a change in legislation, Air France and KLM are now allowing the permanent use of Portable Electronic Devices (PED) on its flights.

You can now use these devices all the time, but they have to be in ‘airplane mode’. Until recently, the use of these devices was prohibited during take-off and landing. A change in legislation now allows use permanently. Devices allowed include: smartphones, tablets, e-readers, media players, radios, cameras, headphones (except wireless Bluetooth headphones), handheld games, pagers and medical equipment.

You will need to use headphones if your device produces sound. Wireless Bluetooth headphones are not allowed. Laptops and similar larger devices, and devices that weigh more than 1 kg (2.2 lbs), need to be stowed during taxi, take-off and landing. Our crew will ask you to completely switch off and stow your devices in specific circumstances only.

Devices never allowed to be used on board: e-cigarettes, wireless Bluetooth headphones, personal air purifiers, remote control toys, televisions, transmitters, VHF scanner receivers and any device with cellular network service enabled.
