Hoxton, Downtown LA – design in a 1922 railway building

The recently opened Hoxton, Downtown LA hotel, is unusual in many senses. The brand new, 174-room hotel has been developed inside the former Los Angeles Railway Building, a ten-storey Beaux Arts structure built in 1922.

After the building had served as a railway building, it has also housed a garment manufacturer and a sweet shop. Today, guests can book rooms according to a rather unusual rating, in four categories: Snug, Cosy, Roomy and Biggy. According to BusinessTraveller, all rooms have wall panelling, chevron flooring and burl timber, with decorations including local artwork, retro telephones and Marshall radios.

Also, all guests enjoy free wifi, a mini fridge, fresh milk and a daily breakfast bag delivered to the room. The hotel offers a rooftop bar, lounge and pool as well as two restaurants; Sibling Rival is the all-day lobby restaurant; Pilot is the rooftop restaurant with Mediterranean-inspired food and sweeping views of LA’s Broadway area.

The design-oriented hotel brand The Hoxton opened its first Chicago hotel and third London hotel earlier this year, joining those in Portland, New York, Paris and Amsterdam.
