Delta Air Lines saves 38 million liters of fuel in aircraft operations
Delta Air Lines reports that it has saved more than 10 million gallons (almost 38 million litres) of fuel thanks to the work of its new Carbon Council, that was launched in 2022.
The airline reports that the input from the Carbon Council included sustainability benefits from fleet modifications, enhanced landing procedures, and optimizations to flight routing and speed.
Made up of leaders from across the airline, the council drives fuel savings initiatives that align with the airline's Science Based Target initiative commitments. Teams across Delta have worked together to make an impact.
One example of the Carbon Council's work is the decision to install enhanced split scimitar winglets for drag reduction on the 737-800 fleet. Once complete, this investment alone is expected to save an estimated 3.3 million gallons of fuel annually.
