You rented a car, returned it at the airport lot and later found that the rental company charged you because you supposedly returned it with less gas then required. Avis Budget group has found a way to end this practice by introducing a new and more precise fuel measurement technology and billing system.

Avis Budget – more accurate gasoline billingFrom now on, customers will be billed more accurately for the gasoline that they use when driving the rental cars. Until now, rental company employees more or less guess how much gas is in your tank at pick-up and drop-off, based on what the – often inaccurate – gauge on the dashboard shows. The new technology measures a vehicle's fuel level at the time and point of exit and return in one-tenth of a gallon increments.

Tom Gartland, president, North America, Avis Budget Group, says: "In fact, should there be more gasoline in the tank at the time of return than at check-out, the system will record it and a credit to the customer will be issued."

The new fuel system automatically measures and records the precise amount of gas in the tank at the time the customer exits the Avis or Budget rental facility, and measures and records the fuel level again when the vehicle is returned. Both readings are printed on the customer's rental receipt when the vehicle is returned.
