The Ministry of Environmental Protection, China’s environmental watchdog has named and ‘blacklisted’ four companies because the failed to answer demands to correct environmental wrongdoings uncovered in an earlier inspection. A steel company, a textile company, a copper company and a sewage treatment plant were punished.
One factory did not halt a trial operation of a technical upgrade project as required by environment authorities and has emitted a large amount of pollutants. A second company refused to stop production and pay a fine after one of its projects was found to be operating without approval. Another company has not improved its management of dangerous waste. The sewage treatment plant has not been put in use because it lacked certain facilities that are important to protect the environment.
