Manufacturers ready to compete in 5G smartphone market
With telecommunications network operators pushing forward their initial roll-outs of ultra-fast 5G mobile services, the first 5G smartphones have been launched in China. China’s Vivo presented the Nex 3 smartphone, available in 5G and 4G versions.
After Huawei, ZTE Corp. and Samsung, Vivo is the fourth brand to launch 5G models. The South China Morning Post reports that research company expects about 1 million 5G smartphones to be sold in China this year. When 5G mobiles services have been rolled out, 5G smartphone sales will reach 57 million in 2020. These devices represent 15 per cent of the total market in 2020.
The Nex 3 is powered by US semiconductor firm Qualcomm’s first 5G-ready chipset, the Snapdragon 855 Plus.
