Amanyangyun: Shanghai tranquillity

If Shanghai is your business destination and you long for luxury in a quiet setting, try the new Amanyangyun hotel. This new Aman resort, opened in October 2017, is an enclave of calm in China's financial capital. Much of the hotel and its green surroundings have been relocated from Jianxi province, 450 miles away.

According to a report by the Luxury Travel Bible, most of the hotel’s structures have been brought over, stone by stone, from the region of Fuzhou, known for its historic villages. When authorities planned to construct a water reservoir in the region, the fate of these remnants of Old China appeared to be sealed. “A Fuzhou native, Mr. Ma was determined to prevent the destruction of these important fragments of Chinese history. He conceived a plan to relocate 50 Ming- and Qing-dynasty villas and ultimately ten thousand of the trees.”

The trees and the bricks made the new Amanyangyun hotel. Despite its setting not far from Shanghai's metropolitan heart (Bund district, along with cultural, dining and shopping attractions, are all under an hour's drive away), the new hotel’s 24 rooms/suites have woodland views and combine expansive living areas with tranquil courtyards. The hotel offers six food and beverage venues, including a Chinese Restaurant, an All Day Dining Pavilion, a Club Lounge, Lakeside Café and Aman Deli Village Shop.
