KLM’s new airport route planner app If you are transferring at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport for the first time and feel unsure about where to go, you will love KLM’s new airport app. The app offers transferring KLM passengers a route planner app to help you find their way with innovative beacon technology.

KLM is the first airline that is using beacon technology to provide an indoor airport navigation service for customers. When you arrive at the airport, simply connect to the gateway's free Wi-Fi service and open the KLM app. When you pass one of the navigation beacons at the airport, you will receive a notification asking if you would like assistance in finding you next gate.

The app then displays the route you need to take, together with the estimated time it will take you to walk to the gate. Each time you pass another beacon, the distance and time required will be updated.

The app has been developed following customer feedback that shows that even experienced travellers often worry about transferring to another flight. Based on the fact that 67% of KLM’s passengers at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport are transfer passengers, KLM aims to improve customers’ travel experience with the new app. The service is currently available for Android smartphones, and will be available for iOS phones soon.
