Need help? Ask the hotel concierge

Many travellers are not exactly sure when to ask a hotel concierge for help. Should you bother him with a trivial question – or a difficult one?

One thing is for sure. Concierges will help any guest with any question, it is their job to be there for you. Artofmanliness.com looked into the job description of the ‘hotel concierge’ and compiled a list of services: he can get you a replacement toothbrush, comb or razor, give directions to where you’re headed, offer restaurant recommendations, as well as book and confirm reservations, call a taxi, offer advice on attractions and museums to visit, and even procure tickets, give tips on which attractions and exhibits may be temporarily closed. He or she will also offer advice on what areas and times you’ll likely run into traffic

Most of this information is available on the internet. But whom or what website can you trust? Instead, trust the hotel concierge. It is his job to be right about stuff like that. By the way, your question may be a lot more complicated than those mentioned above, like this one: how can I arrange a super romantic date for your (girl)friend or an event for your business retreat?

And yes, a concierge does not mind being appreciated. So he will not say no to your tip. Artofmanliness advises: “While you can wait to tip your concierge until the end of your stay, it can be better to grease the wheels right from the get-go. Tip early and often: anytime the concierge helps you out, give a small tip ($2-$5).” Tip bigger if your question or request was tough.
