Take a BLADE to Manhattan

Have you ever imagined travelling to or from JFK to Manhattan on your own privately-chartered helicopter? This pleasure is no longer limited to the ultra-rich, as the new start up BLADE is making short-distance aviation easy and affordable.

BLADE calls itself ‘the first digitally driven short distance aviation company’. Using the BLADE app, flights can be booked to the most in-demand destinations in seconds.
Forbes reports that the start-up offers 6-seater Eurocopter charters to and from all New York area airports from $895. That may still seem a lot of money, but it gets better. The deal is still great if you did not bring five co-workers to fill all the seats. You can use the BLADE app to purchase a single seat on existing trips or create and crowd source your own flight. BLADE sells remaining unused seats to its network of 30,000 users on behalf of the crowd sourcer. The net effect is that crowd sourcers can potentially fly on their own schedule (like a charter) for the cost of one seat.

BLADE started in Summer 2014 servicing routes between Manhattan and the resort area of the Hamptons. Soon after that, it expanded to offer 20 minute on-demand helicopter charters between Manhattan and all area airports. The company has also launched BLADE Aqua Seaplane service to Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, and the Pines of Fire Island.
