Nigeria is officially the most expensive hotel destination of Africa. No other country on the continents charges travellers more for four and five star hotel accommodation, research by The Guardian shows.

Southern Sun Gold Reef City hotel (Johannesburg, South Africa) charges the equivalent of € 113 per night for a standard room; Southern Sun Mayfair Nairobi Kenya – same hotel chain, similar service level – charges an equivalent of €176 for Standard King Bed; but Southern Sun Ikoyi hotel Lagos, Nigeria charges €282 for the same type of room per night. For a suite, Southern Sun Hyde Park Sandton, South Africa charges € 411while Southern Sun Lagos charges €531 per night. Similar rate differences are known for Intercontinental hotels, Sheraton hotels, and Radisson Blu hotels between their Lagos branch and those in other African cities.
