In a few years from now, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam will welcome its business and tourist travelers at a new airport. The planned new Long Thanh International Airport promises to be one of the most innovative airports in Asia. The new airport will be located 40 kilometers east of Ho Chi Minh City.

Building the new airport, to be opened in 2025, is a huge project, in many ways. The project requires a €14.2 billion investment in the airport that will initially have a capacity of 25 million passengers per annum. As passenger numbers in Ho Chi Minh City are rising by 20% annually, the new airport is prepared to handle 120 million passengers in 2050. To handle this amount of travelers, the new super hub will have four runways and four passenger terminals.

According to Airport World, the city’s current Tan Son Nhat (TSN) International Airport will be upgraded to meet rising travel demand, but due to its specific location, there is no room for expansion.

According to Airport World, the design of Long Thanh International Airport’s passenger terminal “was inspired by the elegance of full-blossomed lotus petals, delicately embodied to complete the curvilinear shape of the terminal.” The terminal, designed by Heerim Architects & Planners, will be equipped with state-of-the-art ICT technology to ensure a quick, easy and convenient airport experience for passengers.
